In hope to help future users to adopt the Mac OS X Leopard, I'm posting a sample iPC 10.5.6 hackintosh installation for a specific system (below).
I hope this can help you make the correct install decisions on the first few trials, and avoid multiple installations based solely on trial and error.
Of course you will have to adapt your installation settings to your specific hardware, but I hope you can learn by example:
1. Based on the following hardware...
Processor ► Intel Core 2 Duo
Motherboard ► Asus P5LD2 SE
From this motherboard specs (site), extracted the following ► Chipset = Intel ICH7; Audio = ADI1986A; LAN = RTL8111B
Graphics ► NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX 320MB
2. ...the following settings were successfully installed on iPC:

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System ► Base system. Required.
Language Translations ► Choose a language if you wish.
Kernels: 9.5.0 Voodo Kernel ► Chosen due to compatibility/performance issues. Vanilla Kernel would work, but required extra patches and the impossibility to use 2 CPUs on this system (Vanilla=Choose no kernel)
Video Drivers ► None chosen. Used EFI strings to configure the NVidia after installation complete (with EFIStudio + OSx86 Tools utility).
Chipset Drivers: LegacyApplelntelPIIXATA ► Chosen due to ICH7 chipset. Intel ICHx SATA Drivers would also work nicely.
Audio Drivers: AD1986 ► ADI1986A chipset specified in the motherboard specs. Pros: Several outputs available, Cons: No volume control. Azalia Audio driver would also work nicely. Pros: Volume control works, Cons: Speakers only.
Ethernet Drivers ► None chosen. System auto-detects the RTL8111B chipset nicely.
USB Drivers: Patched USB Drivers ► For the USB performance improvement.

lOPCIFamily.kext patched and lOPCMCIAFamily ► For the correct detection of PCI adapters.
Fixes and Patches: Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 ► Voodoo Kernel chosen requires this patch!
Alternate Disablers: IntelCPUPMDisabler ► Disables the problematic Power Management driver that halts the Mac on boot.
PS/2 Device Support: PS/2 Keyboard Fix ► So I can later free one USB if I whish to.
AppleSMBIOS Patch: AppleSMBIOS AnV MacPro ► So that Mac OS X thinks it's a real Mac.
Applications ► All, except the "Marvin's AMD Utility" (it's an Intel CPU). "EFIStudio" used to set NVidia EFI strings and "OSx86 Tools utility" used to enable Quartz GL...

3. Remember to reboot once with the "-f" option.
Notice: In this particular system, rebooting with "-f" makes the system not be able to detect the mass storage external hard disks, and ethernet fails to find the cable modem. These problems are fixed as soon as the system is reboot in a normal fashion.
Good luck
