First impressions are dominated by the clean interface and the responsiveness of the graphics system. Interface is simple, consistent, well designed and with good taste. Graphics animations are beautifully and very smooth.
The control panel (called Preferences) is clean and simple to use. All Mac interface is dominated by the lack of interface clutter, and the result is quite pleasing, with the feeling that you just bought a larger monitor.
Since this was a new OS to me, a bit of adaptation was required, but I felt like expanding my horizons was a positive thing.
Performance-wise, I must say that any similarities with a fresh installed XP or Vista, is a mere coincidence:
Installed on an old hard disk, this Mac booted in 20 seconds flat, and right after that the hard disk literally stops! (no more loadings to do)
Xbench benchmarks indicate the performance is roughly equivalent to an €1000 iMac, better in graphics performance, but loosing in HD performance (since I installed the Mac on an old hard disk I had lying around).
Conclusion:
The Mac OS X Leopard kicks ass!
